Problem statements • New DAO members rarely stick around long enough to participate or contribute. The community is quite large but not very active. • Some of these issues can be solved with better processes, but we need someone whose consistent job is to manage the community instead of having one-off initiatives.
Objectives and measures of success • Ensuring that new Discord members can join the SharkDAO community and contribute to our initiatives without overwhelming existing contributors • Increasing the retention of new members and their participation in the DAO through governance and DAO community calls
Scope of the community manager role • Guiding the contributors and enabling them to make things happen (1-1 and intro calls) • Sustaining our values so everyone feels welcome and motivated in the DAO • Organize/coordinate community-building initiatives with input and support from contributors • Maintain healthy and active community spaces (e.g. Discord channels) • Manage the onboarding process with input and support from contributors • Add & update the community calendar on Otterspace
Outside of scope • The community manager should be a Discord moderator but is not the only Discord moderator - all moderators are responsible for enforcing the code of conduct in the Discord.
Proposal • I propose electing a community lead to the DAO for a 12-weeks term (approx. 3 months). • I nominate myself (@Libellule) for these 4-weeks (Starting Monday, June Xth), set up new processes, and set things in motion. • After 4-weeks we can decide based on results if it’s worth extending for the next 12-weeks
Cost • This role is expected to be part-time and paid at 0.7 ETH every 4-weeks. This proposal covers only the first 4-weeks.
Some changes we can immediately implement if the proposal passes: • Admin access to Otterspace. We’ve been experiencing some issues with new members during the onboarding process, and it would be great to have access to the platform and the support team when needed. • Add the notion link in the #official-links channel to provide new and existing contributors with guidance around the DAO structure. • Add a small message in the #Welcome-onboard channel for contributors to reach out to the Community lead for an intro call or guidance on ways to contribute. o I will need to meet with the leads across all committees to guide new contributors in the right direction
Opportunities I see becoming part of my scope in the future - PHASE 2: • As I start this role, I am sure more responsibilities will arise (i.e. engage existing members to contribute to SharkDAO). • More details to come.
