This proposal's outcome decides what kind of license the Shonen Junk Genesis collection will have. The choices are CC0 (Creative Commons Public Domain) or keep the status quo.
CC0 enables scientists, educators, artists and other creators and owners of copyright- or database-protected content to waive those interests in their works and thereby place them as completely as possible in the public domain, so that others may freely build upon, enhance and reuse the works for any purposes without restriction under copyright or database law.
By placing the Shonen Junk Genesis collection in the public domain, anyone inspired will be able to build upon Shonen Junk. New creations are only limited by one’s imagination. Each new creation allows more people to become familiar with the original project.
We believe this will create more value for original Shonen Junk Genesis holders given that they own the original artifact from which other artifacts may be created. We have seen success from projects that are in the public domain. Two examples are Loot and Cryptoadz.
In the event the majority does not vote to place the Shonen Junk Genesis collection under public domain, the alternative option is to maintain the existing limited commercial use rights license as outlined in our litepaper, and if community requests, opens the possibility to explore different licensing models.
