Should the Worlds Feature be renamed?

The purpose of this poll is to establish context for a potential name change for the Worlds feature.

A product name is not only important for establishing the brand for the current users, but also as a means of pulling in new users. Product names should allow newcomers to quickly grasp what the feature offers while pulling them in by being enticing and marketable.

Why change the name ‘Worlds’?

• ‘Worlds’ doesn’t accurately communicate what the feature offers: your own personal space. ‘Worlds’ implies something much bigger. It also doesn’t entice, being very basic.

• The name ‘Worlds’ is used by other metaverse projects. (i.e Spatial: ‘Build your own 3D world in one click’).

• In day-to-day conversations, the Foundation, DAO, and community refer to anything inside Decentraland as ‘in world’—this is now getting confused with ‘in Worlds’.

• Other metaverse projects are often referred to as other ‘worlds’.

While the name ‘Worlds’ is simple, throughout the feature’s beta period it became clear that it was not the best for marketing purposes, did not accurately describe what the feature is, and was too general. Being in a beta state, the name was always subject to change, and now would be the right time to implement this.

However, please keep in mind that at Decentraland, product names are intended to be descriptive or suggestive, rather than random, made up, or fanciful (i.e Google, Uber) and should be easy for a global audience (non-native English speakers) to understand.
