Introduction

This proposal advocates for replacing the current three-strike moderation system outlined in the DAO's Code of Ethics with a more assertive and effective framework. By empowering moderators to take prompt and decisive action, including immediate bans when warranted, this new approach seeks to foster a respectful and constructive environment across the community's communication channels.

Why Change the Three-Strike System?

While the three-strike system was implemented with good intentions, it often delays the resolution of disruptive behaviors. This lag allows conflicts to escalate, creating a negative atmosphere and discouraging active, constructive participation. To address these challenges, this proposal recommends eliminating unnecessary delays and adopting a firm stance against toxicity.

Key Changes Proposed

By approving this proposal, Chapter 4 of the Code of Ethics, which details the three-strike moderation system, will be entirely removed, along with all associated references. This shift establishes a moderation system that prioritizes immediate and effective intervention.

Under the proposed framework, moderators will have the autonomy to take necessary actions to uphold a positive and respectful community space. These actions may include:

  • Deleting toxic or harmful messages to maintain a constructive dialogue.
  • Issuing immediate bans for users exhibiting repeated harmful or disruptive behaviors.

While efforts will continue to resolve conflicts through dialogue when possible, this system will empower moderators to act swiftly and decisively in cases where community standards are at risk.

Goals of the Updated Moderation System

The primary objective of this change is to create an inclusive, respectful environment where community members feel encouraged to participate without fear of harassment or toxicity. This system reinforces the principle that respect is non-negotiable and ensures harmful actions are addressed promptly.
