This publication proposes creating a Spectra gauge for stk-GHO, to incentivize risk-aligned user participation and support GHO utility expansion.

Background

The Umbrella system marks the next evolution of Aave’s Safety Module. It enables users to stake specific aTokens or GHO to help backstop Aave protocol risk, while receiving protocol incentives in return. It broadens risk-sharing to a diverse set of token holders and aligns incentives with asset-specific exposures.

The following staked assets were introduced as part of the Umbrella activation:

• stk-aUSDC
• stk-aUSDT
• stk-aWETH
• stk-GHO

These tokens represent claims on the underlying aTokens or GHO, while granting coverage functionality and protocol-level rewards, much like traditional stkAAVE.

Motivation

By enabling Spectra gauges for Umbrella assets, Aave DAO can:

• Bootstrap liquidity and participation in the Umbrella system,
• Attract new user profiles, especially passive aToken holders unfamiliar with staking mechanisms,
• Support long-term peg stability for GHO via stk-GHO inclusion,
• Direct veSPECTRA bribes and partner incentives toward assets with the most strategic relevance.

These gauges will facilitate incentive optimization and unlock fixed- and variable-yield opportunities for Umbrella participants, further integrating Aave with the growing Spectra ecosystem.
