SDGP-006: Squiggle and Sculpture Donations

As per SDIP-40, this is a Governance Proposal and has a Quorum to Pass of 250 SquiggleDAO NFTs and a Minimum Participation of 10 voters.

Abstract

This proposal -if approved- authorizes the Core Team to donate Squiggles to Museums and Galleries, covering any related expenses, if necessary. Additionally, it authorizes the Core Team to donate Squiggle Sculptures to Museums, Galleries, College Campuses, Cities and any other suitable public place. The Core Team will have discretion over which institutions to donate to, which pieces and sculptures and over any expenses and related terms.

Motivation

• Recognition and Prestige: Having a Squiggle displayed in a museum can significantly enhance Snowfro's, Squiggles and the DAO’s reputation. It serves as a form of validation from respected curators and art critics, and places the artist within an esteemed context of art history.

• Exposure and Audience Reach: Museums attract a large and diverse audience. By having Squiggles in a museum, Squiggles can reach a broader and more varied group of viewers.

• Legacy and Longevity: Museums are often seen as guardians of culture and history. An artist's work being part of a museum's collection ensures its preservation and study for future generations, contributing to the artist's legacy.

• Educational Impact: Museums play a critical role in education, from school visits to academic research. The DAO is motivated by the opportunity to educate and inspire others through Snowfro’s work.

• Financial Incentives: Although direct financial gain from museum exhibitions might be limited, the prestige and exposure can lead to increased demand for Squiggles, creating more opportunities for future exhibitions and sales.

• Cultural Contribution: The DAO desires to contribute to the cultural and intellectual landscape. Museums provide a platform for artists to engage with societal issues and influence public discourse through their work. Squiggles' cultural impact has been seen throughout our space.

• Networking and Opportunities: Being associated with a museum can open doors to further opportunities, including collaborations, residencies, and participation in other prominent exhibitions and events.

Success Conditions

To donate at least one Squiggle Sculpture per year to a reputable institution. To donate at least one Squiggle to a Museum per year to a reputable institution.

Specification

Any Squiggles and/or Sculptures donated to be chosen by operators at their discretion. Crating, shipping, handling, insurance and installation varies and operators will decide on the most cost efficient option.

Launch Details

Project will be launched according to the specifications above, at the timing and discretion of the operators.

Costs

Below are some estimates of the cost but things will vary depending on size, crating, shipping, insurance, installation and location.

Regarding donations to Museums

• The DAO has been able to buy some Squiggles at low prices where they can be used to replace any Squiggles from our Vault that will be used as a Museum donation.
• Other expenses can include but are not limited to: educational materials and sessions, intermediary advisors, Digital Frame to properly display the Squiggle, etc.

Regarding Sculpture donations

• The cost of an 800 lb Squiggle Marble Sculpture costs $25,000, but if the size or material is changed, cost will vary.
• Crating, shipping, handling, insurance and installation costs around $10,000 this depends on the location of delivery.
• If a base is created or built for this, it can cost around $2,000-3,000 extra.

It’s the primary focus of the Core Team to be the most capital efficient possible when donating pieces to institutions, to reach the maximum impact. We will be donating pieces only if the institution is relevant and well regarded. Also the time and resources invested in a particular donation will be proportional to the impact of Squiggles being included in that particular institution.
