Burn or Wrap Original Stars? (For the Arial Collection)

Today marks a major milestone as we turn to our next chapter.

As we started producing the new Starcatchers, we quickly realized that we’d soon face some important choice points with respect to the current collection.

Some feel very strongly that we should eliminate the current art due to its history. Others are fans of the current art, and would prefer to retain it via wrapping or something similar.

Although we have our own opinions, we felt this decision should not be left solely to the core team nor to elected delegates, but instead to the entire Starcatchers community.

With that said, this will be our first community vote (and likely the only vote not conducted using the delegate system, more on which next week). For clarity, and to impose some structure on the choice, here are the options we’d like to present:

Option 1:

Full burn of your Starcatcher(s). The Starcatcher you currently hold is no more. Doing this would allow us to develop more dynamic features for the collection going forward. We would keep the current OpenSea page, but replace the metadata.

This is currently the team’s preferred option because it expands what we can do in the future, and allows us to improve on some previous design choices that we now feel could be better optimized.

Option 2:

A form of wrapping. You’ll be able to swap back and forth between your old Starcatcher and your new one. The new Stars will be tied 1:1 to current Stars, so that the introduction of the new art will be non-dilutive.

Other brands that have pursued something similar to this option include Doodles, Little Lemon Friends, and Rubber Duck Bath Party. We love these brands and think they’re each doing something really exciting. But if we go this route, we’d go about it in our own way, and be innovative in our implementation, so as to ensure a satisfying experience for our holders.

Again, this is not a decision we take lightly.

The future of Starcatchers is in your hands. This vote is the ultimate way for us to demonstrate that we’re listening, and that you’re heard.

Regardless of the outcome of the vote, we will continue to grow this brand and secure our place among the top Web3 brands in the space. And, as ever, we’ll continue to do right by our community. We appreciate all of you, and we’re so excited and thankful that you’ve decided to join us on this journey.
