Context
Unichain is a Layer 2 (L2) blockchain built on the OP Stack from Optimism. It is designed to extend Ethereum’s scaling roadmap by shifting execution to L2, providing faster transactions and lower fees while maintaining Ethereum’s security guarantees.
Unichain is developed by Uniswap Labs.
Key Features:
- Verifiable Block Building: Developed in collaboration with Flashbots, this mechanism enables sub-second block times, improves fairness through transparent transaction ordering, and prevents failed transactions using a trusted execution environment (TEE). It also allows applications to allocate part of their maximal extractable value (MEV) to users.
- Decentralized Validation Network: A distributed network of node operators reduces block sequencing risks and accelerates finality for faster cross-chain settlements.
- Optimistic Rollup Architecture: As part of the Optimism Superchain, Unichain enables native interoperability with other L2s, allowing single-block cross-chain messaging.
Unichain launched on Mainnet in February 2025.
Proposal
Enable support for Unichain within the Symbiosis protocol. The integration includes the following steps:
- Deploying and tuning Symbiosis contracts on Unichain to ensure smooth operation.
- Adding token for Unichain in the Symbiosis AMM DEX on the host chain: WETH
- Leveraging existing DEXs on Unichain to enable on-chain routing.
- Activating the Symbiosis Relayers Network to work with the new blockchain.
Key Points
- As Uniswap’s Layer 2 solution, Unichain benefits from a large existing user base, and its recent Mainnet launch is expected to drive increased transaction activity, creating demand for cross-chain swaps.
- EVM compatibility ensures straightforward integration into Symbiosis, enabling immediate cross-chain functionality and expanding token swap options for users.
