[SIP-48] Flow of Stablecoin Liquidity: Bringing Plasma to Symbiosis

Voting ended 4 months agoSucceeded

Context

Plasma is a Layer 1 blockchain implementing a custom PlasmaBFT consensus mechanism, based on Byzantine Fault Tolerance. This mechanism provides deterministic finality, allowing blocks to be finalized within seconds and not subject to reorganization. Additionally, Plasma incorporates Bitcoin checkpointing — state hashes are periodically committed to the Bitcoin blockchain to provide an external verification anchor.

The network is fully EVM-compatible, supporting standard Ethereum tooling and smart contract frameworks. Plasma exposes several native protocol-level features optimized for stablecoin operations:

  • Gasless transfers for USDT via protocol-managed paymasters
  • Support for gas payment in whitelisted ERC-20 tokens, including USDT and pBTC (a bridged Bitcoin representation)
  • Confidential transaction capabilities with built-in privacy logic
  • Native Bitcoin Bridge maintained by the protocol for BTC onramping/offramping

Plasma is designed with a focus on stablecoin settlement and transfers, rather than general-purpose smart contract execution. Stablecoin-specific infrastructure is implemented directly at the protocol level to reduce reliance on external tooling or wrappers.

The Plasma mainnet was launched on September 25, 2025.

Proposal

Enable support for Plasma within the Symbiosis protocol. The integration will include the following steps:

  • Deploying and tuning Symbiosis contracts on Plasma to support cross-chain and on-chain operations
  • Adding token for Plasma in the Symbiosis AMM DEX on the host chain: USDT Leveraging DEXs on Plasma to enable on-chain routing to XPL token.
  • Activating the Symbiosis Relayers Network to handle cross-chain messaging and verification for Plasma.

Key Points

  • Stablecoin-Centric Architecture and Gasless USDT Transfers may attract more users engaged in stablecoin payments and transfers, stimulating cross-chain routing demand through Symbiosis.
  • Over $1B in USDT Liquidity from Day One positions Plasma as a high-throughput stablecoin environment from the start, offering significant volume potential for cross-chain swaps.
  • Full EVM Compatibility enables fast deployment of Symbiosis contracts and liquidity infrastructure. This accelerates time-to-market and unlocks immediate cross-chain value flows for Plasma ecosystem users.
