Context
Soneium is a Layer 2 blockchain built on the OP Stack and intended to be part of the Optimism Superchain, enabling native interoperability with other OP Stack-based chains.
As a Layer 2 network, Soneium settles transactions on Ethereum and inherits its security guarantees, while allowing Ethereum smart contracts to be deployed without modification.
The network is part of a developer-oriented ecosystem that provides tools and services for building Web3 applications, with a focus on bridging Web3 and Web2 and bringing Web3 technologies to everyday users.
Soneium was developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs, a joint venture between Sony Group and Startale Labs.
The Soneium Mainnet launched in January 2025.
Proposal
Enable support for Soneium within the Symbiosis protocol. The integration includes the following steps:
- Deploying and tuning Symbiosis contracts on Soneium to ensure smooth operation.
- Adding token for Soneium in the Symbiosis AMM DEX on the host chain: WETH
- Leveraging existing DEXs on Soneium to enable on-chain routing.
- Activating the Symbiosis Relayers Network to work with the new blockchain.
Key Points
- As Soneium becomes part of the Optimism Superchain, its users may require cross-chain swaps to and from networks outside the OP Stack ecosystem, making Symbiosis an essential connectivity layer.
- Soneium’s developer-oriented ecosystem, backed by Sony and Startale, may attract dApp builders and liquidity, which Symbiosis can tap into by offering cross-chain routing and token swaps.
- Soneium's positioning toward Web2/Web3 bridging and mass adoption could onboard non-crypto-native users. Supporting this chain early gives Symbiosis access to a new user base.
- Full EVM compatibility ensures straightforward integration into Symbiosis, enabling immediate cross-chain swaps and expanding token liquidity options.
