This no-cost proposal provides a solution for an element of the ApeCoinDAO voting system that inhibits voters from being able to elect more than one person when multiple positions are being filled for the same role; without changing how constituents cast their votes now, should they choose not to adapt.
The concept is simple, if three Special Council Members are to be elected, you should have the ability to cast three votes for a say on who each of those new members should be; and the same for Working Group Stewards — leading to outcomes that will better reflect your needs.
This system is considered a form of cumulative voting, where votes can be weighted, and most commonly used by organizations electing business directors or board positions. It is also applied by government entities.

The proposal is currently being discussed internally within the GWG and may be presented on behalf of the Governance Working group.
Improved Voter Representation and Accuracy: Cumulative voting empowers ApeCoinDAO members to allocate their votes across multiple candidates when more than one position is being filled for the same role, reflecting what the community wants on a more granular level.
Enhanced Transparency: Cumulative voting mitigates exclusive voting tendencies by prompting voters to consider a broader range of choices, and reducing the likelihood groups of coordinated voters supporting single candidates.
Promoting Inclusivity: Cumulative voting enables voters to endorse various candidates with diverse perspectives at the same time, enhancing inclusivity and ensuring that multiple viewpoints can be represented.
Increased Opportunities for Candidates: This system will generate more chances for qualified candidates, particularly those lacking extensive networks or individuals acknowledged by the community as promising proteges who could excel when working with the top candidates or existing elected members.
Snapshot: Online voting platform that ApeCoinDAO uses allowing DAOs, DeFi protocols, and NFT communities to vote without gas fees.
Cumulative Voting: This system refers to electoral formats where voters have the ability to weight their votes in situations where multiple candidates are elected simultaneously for the same role within the same group.
Voting Strategy: A methodology used to calculate a user’s voting power when using Snapshot.
No new platforms or technologies will be required; however, an additional voting strategy may be required on Snapshot.
If approved, ApeCoinDAO administration will update Snapshot ahead of the next election cycle and appropriate messaging should be communicated across standard DAO channels.
There is no cost to implement this proposal.
