Simplifying Clipper Pool to improve DEX comparables

Voting ended about 2 years agoSucceeded

What's the big idea? The Clipper pool is performing well, yet complexities in yield calculations and multi-asset exposures hinder many liquidity providers from depositing. Clipper is built to flip Uniswap’s ETH<>USD pool, which is 70% of Uniswap’s total volumes. For Clipper to reach its full potential it is critical that we remove conceptual roadblocks for LPs. Simplifying the pool by removing BTC exposure and transitioning to a 2-pool model (ETH<>USD, with USD represented by USDT/USDC/DAI) will align it comparability with Uniswap's leading ETH<>USD pool, clarifying its value proposition and encouraging greater liquidity provision. What is the problem you are trying to solve? Complexity in Yield and Exposure: The current Clipper pool configuration, including BTC, creates a complex yield structure and exposure, making it difficult for some to understand. Underutilization of Potential: Clipper's performance should draw in more deposits than it does currently What evidence do you have that indicates this is a problem? Feedback from SAIL holders and big LPs indicates confusion over yields and reluctance to make new deposits further due to the complexities they perceive in their current exposure. Comparative analysis shows pools with simpler structures, like Uniswap's ETH<>USD pool, attract more liquidity, in part due to their straightforwardness. What is the desired outcome if the problem is solved? Simplifying the pool will Enhance the clarity and appeal of the Clipper pool to LPs. Increase liquidity provision by making the deposit proposition more understandable. Align the Clipper pool's size and visibility with leading DeFi pools for increased competitiveness. Who is this for? This proposal benefits: SAIL Holders: By making the pool's potential and performance more understandable. Liquidity Providers: By simplifying yield calculations and exposure, encouraging greater participation. Clipper protocol: Increased pool volumes will attract more users who will benefit from Clipper’s high yields and low prices.. This will in turn enhance Clipper’s competitive positioning. How might this work? Simplification Process: Gradually reduce the "WBTC" weight in the pool to 0%. Automatically adjusting the target weights of ETH<>USD exposure. Technical Requirements: This adjustment does not require deploying new contracts, just changes to weight parameters that have thus far never been changed.. Affected Networks: This change impacts Ethereum Mainnet only. There is no anticipated change for other chains, though that could be contemplated in the future depending on how this change goes. How might we prototype/test concept desirability and feasibility? Initial Testing: Start with a small, controlled adjustment to the WBTC weight and monitor the pool's performance and LP response. Feedback Loops: Engage with SAIL holders and LPs through surveys and forums to gather feedback on the simplification process, especially on the re-based Suggested Implementation Plan Timeline: Begin weight reduction over a several-week period, assessing impact weekly. Milestones: Initial weight reduction, mid-point evaluation, final weight adjustment to 0%, and post-implementation review. Costs: Minimal, primarily labor for monitoring and adjustments, estimated at less than 40 hours of developer time. Why might this idea fail? Unforeseen technical challenges in adjusting pool weights. Market conditions that unfavorably impact the simplified pool structure. Reduced pool volume as BTC exposure drops The performance could suffer one-time hit to the historical APYs. How will we measure success? Increased Liquidity: Growth in total value locked (TVL) in the pool. Improved Stakeholder Sentiment: Positive feedback from SAIL holders and LPs regarding the simplification. Comparative Performance: Matching or exceeding the growth trajectory of similar leading DeFi pools.
