Card packs and the drop mechanics for them are a huge part of any card game. Up until now, most TCGs have been extractive in releasing more and more cards that lessen the impact and value of older cards.
In digital spaces, you can't even resell your cards without selling your entire account on a black market site. Think Hearthstone for example.
Here at KOTE we're focused on utilizing blockchain as a way to mitigate some of that loss of value and utility as the game and player base progresses and expands. We're far from a typical TCG in both gameplay and drop mechanics.
Below are 9 possible ways to drive value towards early adopters of Blightfell while still allowing for expanding the gameplay and user base with new card drops.
Remember we need to strike a balance here of allowing new players to join the game at any point and still feel competitive, while also acknowledging that early adopters and supporters should be recognized for the part they play in helping Blightfell grow.
Old Commons Traded For New Burn old common cards you no longer need in return for randomly selected common cards from new pack drops.
First Editions Generate Second Editions First Edition cards can generate Second Edition cards through winning enough games with them in your deck. Second Edition cards cannot generate new cards, but can be sold by the player that generates them with their First Edition cards. (Similar to the Echoes mechanic in Parallel for those who are familiar)
Forever Packs Forever Packs can be opened during any new card drop and will contain the cards in that specific drop. Buy now, open later when the types of cards available best suit your playstyle or deck.
RIP Dates Packs with built in RIP Dates must be opened on or before that date. They will automatically be opened when the RIP Date arrives. Not all packs will have these, but they will be priced lower as a more accessible entry point, with the trade-off that they cannot be held unopened indefinitely.
Variants Card art and frame variants that add collectability to certain rare cards. Meant for collectors specifically, as opposed to hardcore players.
Re-Rip Spend FIEF/MAGIC to 'Re-Rip' a pack, replacing all of the cards with new ones. Limited to one Re-Rip per pack.
1st Drop Booster Box Discount Booster Boxes for the inaugural Card Drop will be heavily discounted for KOTE community members based on a few factors, including assets held, Blightfell play-time and more. This is a way to reward early supporters with a piece of Blightfell history for helping us get to the place we are today!
Play to Rip! A points XP system tied to in-game Blightfell challenges that can be exchanged for Card Packs in the 1st drop. Play to Rip!
Trade Potions and Trinkets Trade Potions and Trinkets for Card Packs. Rarities and Levels of Potions and Trinkets determine the type and amount of Card Packs given in return. This feels like a solid way to burn item supply and reward daily Squire and Blightfell players.
