Summary

FilmmakerDAO is the DAO for filmmakers and film enthusiasts.

We coordinated efforts from filmmakers, technologists, and art lovers who believe in the power of film.

We believe filmmakers should have more ownership of their careers and more sovereignty over the IP they create.

We recognize that the current landscape of distribution options does not provide commensurate upside for the storytellers and artists whose work populates these platforms.

We seek to become a diverse and open community from a broad spectrum of backgrounds and specialties unified and aligned in the vision to build more equitable distribution strategies for the filmmaking industry.

Motivation

Web3 technologies like NFTs, smart contracts, and other blockchain-based solutions have created a paradigm-shifting opportunity for artists in various mediums.

The FilmmakerDAO is spearheaded by a core team of web3 natives who have a unique passion for filmmaking and the filmmaking industry, and want to see these emerging technologies harnessed in a way that brings their full potential to the filmmaking industry.

Part of the core ethos of web3 is the idea of community ownership, transparency, and creator autonomy; all things that the film industry can use improvement on.

Our mission is to make sure that these web3 technologies are harnessed to have a net positive impact on the livelihoods of filmmakers and artists, rather than on further exploiting storytellers for centralized profit-making.

Storyteller Card NFT

FilmmakerDAO's first NFT drop is the Storyteller Card, and it represents a membership card for season 0.

1,999 Filmmakers will be available to mint for active community members starting 8:00 a.m. ET on December 17th, 2021, at 0.05 ETH, at FilmmakerDAO.com.

FilmmakerDAO reserves 662 cards to gift (Token IDs from 1338 to 1999).

Governance Process

The $REEL token, an ERC20 deployed on Ethereum Mainnet and bridged on Polygon, acts as the DAO's governance token. It's an illiquid token representing participation in the FilmmakerDAO community and helps our DAO onboard newcomers to web3.

$REEL will be used to vote on Snapshot proposals like this one. Additionally, NFT holders are also able to vote.

In this way, holding $REEL allows the community to help shape the initial direction of the DAO.

Tokenomics

There are 1 million $REEL, and this token is intended only for governance purposes and to reward early contributors.

🎬 Around 5% of the tokens were already distributed to members of our community and rewards for contribution in our DAO. 🎬 10% of $REEL will be airdropped to the 1999 Storyteller Card NFT holders (50 $REEL each). 🎬 10% will be allocated to the Core Team. 🎬 The remaining sits in our treasury with some amount for circulation.

We have two Gnosis wallets representing our treasure: one in the Mainnet and another on Polygon.

Seasons

FilmmakerDAO will operate in a three-month distribution campaign called "seasons", to drive participation and functionality to the FilmmakerDAO community.

Once this formation is ratified, the $REEL token or the NFT card will provide:

Filmmaker Season 0

Season 0 started with our first Town Hall on Dec 2nd and will run until the last week of February, serving as the bootstrap period.

This season will include:

The goal of this season is for the community to form in Discord and design and research the products and tokens functionality for future seasons.
