Enable Quadratic voting

Voting ended almost 3 years agoSucceeded

Abstract:

Given some members large holdings in the project the current voting mechanism is insufficient.

The problem is multifaced from a community perspective users could be discouraged from participating thinking there smaller stake has no impact on the outcome and large holders could feel like if they vote it will overshadow the community's voice.

Category:

Community Governance

Proposal:

I propose we change the voting to a quadratic formula. this would prioritize many smaller holders votes over single user making many votes.

The way it works is for every vote you make the next vote is a multiple of itself.

  • 1 vote cost 1 vote power.
  • 2 votes cost 4 vote power.
  • 3 votes cost 9 vote power.
  • 4 votes cost 16 vote power.
  • 5 votes cost 25 vote power.

As you can see from the example the more votes you use the harder and harder it becomes in a quadratic fashion.

Obstacles:

Of course this system isn't perfect if someone wanted to make many wallets and vote there is nothing to prevent that besides social pressure and the vote history being public. While not foolproof this system will allow our community to be more expressive overall and remove the "Whale" stigma of the DAO. An additional obstacle is we would need to lower the Quorum again and find what size works for the new system.

Conclusion:

Implementing a quadratic voting system in The Holy Ones DAO will foster a more inclusive and fair community governance process. While not foolproof, this system will promote a more balanced representation of stakeholder interests, ensuring that all voices are heard and considered.
