We've known since the time that the v1 chain spindown was scheduled that issues with the network would become more likely and result in general shenanigans. Unfortunately, the time has come wherein the wTRTL swap has started to become affected by the actions of such horseplay on the v1 network.
As a result of the horseplay wherein reorgs of the chain have started to occur and becoming increasingly more likely, the community would like to take action to protect wTRTL from such shenanigans as much as resonably possible. The response to the situation at hand is left in the hands of the gTRTL holders to determine.
As a result of the reorg that resulted in at least one (1) swap transaction being reorged out of the v1 chain (with more than 200 confirmations at the time), the community suggested increasing the swap confirmations from 60 to 2,880 (approximately 24 hours). This change temporarily mitigates impacts to the swap service; however, as planned, the v1 network will continue to degrade and the likelihood that attacks will become more severe and frequent is incredibly likely.
While the community believes that increasing the swap confirmations is a good step towards mitigating risks to the swap to wTRTL a need exists to further deincentivize such attacks in the future. To do so, the community must incentivize the move of all remaining v1 TRTL in circulation to wTRTL with haste. Previous proposals that passed have attempted to do this; however, a great deal of v1 TRTL still remains on the v1 network. In an effort to motivate people to make the move, the community proposes accelerating the previously ratified swap penalty rates.
