UNFI's participation in Ethereum began on January 1, 2021. At that time, a maximum of 500,000 places were available for UNFI holders to stake. It wasn't long until all the places were taken. This blocked a significant part of the circulating supply of UNFI in participation.

UNFI staking was designed so that as it reached its maximum capacity, the staking APR was higher for all stakers. Initially, ~40% APR was offered at UNFI's maximum participating capacity. The UNFI referendums had not yet been launched. So, Unifi responded to social media requests for an increase in UNFI's maximum engagement capacity.
