Role Description

The Signals Officer, also known as the Marketing & Communication Steward, is a crucial role within the Unlock Protocol DAO Council. This position is responsible for overseeing and executing the DAO's marketing and communication strategies, ensuring effective engagement with the community, and promoting the DAO's mission and projects to a wider audience. This role has been successfully established by other DAOs such as MakerDAO, MetaCartel and DAOhaus. Most of these also guide a working group responsible for creating and implementing marketing strategies, managing public relations, and fostering community onboarding and engagement. Managing and overseeing this working group's operations is one of the primary responsibilities of this position.

Qualification Fulfilled by the Applicant

As the Signals Officer of Unlock DAO, the applicant must fulfill the following qualification criteria.

  • Blockchain and DAO Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in blockchain projects and/ or DAOs.
  • Marketing Expertise: Proven track record in digital marketing, content creation, and community management.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities in English and, ideally, in Spanish.
  • Technical Understanding: Solid grasp of Unlock Protocol's technology and use cases.
  • Governance Knowledge: Familiarity with Unlock DAO governance structures and processes.

Responsibilities

The Signals Officer's responsibilities consist of various managerial and hands-on tasks. They can always be adjusted through an adjusted proposal and a DAO off-chain vote. The role is part of the DAO Council and should consist of a minimum of 30 hours per week to fulfill the responsibilities. Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and overseeing the bi-weekly (eventually weekly) working group meeting, including the collaborative space on Charmverse dedicated to Marketing & Communications: https://app.charmverse.io/unlock-dao/marketing-communications-5819731279114391
  • Create and implement comprehensive marketing and communication strategies aligned with the DAO's vision and mission statement.
  • Foster active participation and growth within the Unlock Protocol community by building onboarding experiences for the DAO and its core target groups.
  • Manage and delegate the curation and development of high-quality branded content across various platforms to educate and inform about Unlock Protocol. This includes coordination with the DAO managers of LinkedIn, Livestreams and TikTok as well as the accounts led by the Unlock Labs team (X, YouTube and Farcaster).
  • Maintain and enhance the DAO's brand identity and guidelines successively.
  • Assist and coordinate in drafting, presenting, and managing marketing-related proposals within the DAO (e.g., Marketing Proposal 2024).

KPIs - Measure of Success

KPIs or key performance indicators help keep track of the success of the Signals Officer role. Although part of a council of course, collective work will always level up everyone’s success. Here are some proposed tools to measure the roles' success:

Community Growth: Monthly increase in active community members and adoption of Unlock Protocol.

Content Performance: Reach and engagement metrics for published content over a period of multiple months focusing on long term success.

Brand Awareness: Increase in brand mentions and sentiment across social media channels.

Proposal Success Rate: Percentage of marketing proposals approved by the DAO as well as the implementation rate of approved proposals.

Market Position (shared goal with other DAO Council Members): Improve Unlock Protocol's ranking among competing projects and increase the number of projects or platforms integrating Unlock Protocol.

Governance Participation (shared goal with other DAO Council Members): Increase in the number of DAO members participating in governance decisions and voter turnout for key proposals.

  • Recognition: As the Signals Officer is part of the official Unlock DAO Council, it should come with official recognition, such as: // An official post from the official Unlock Protocol social media accounts to welcome the new Unlock DAO Steward to their role // A membership NFT (Hats Protocol) that will expire after the current holder gets voted out of their role. // An interview via the Livestream series for Unlock Protocol.

Exit Terms

This position is not indefinite and should undergo periodic evaluation. A recommended timeframe could be every six to twelve months. The DAO can propose a change in the role or position and its holder through an off-chain DAO vote at any point in time.
