Supporting Latina Blockchain Hackathon

Voting ended over 1 year agoSucceeded

Proposal Background

As an expat, I have lived in Peru for about seven years and witnessed many shifts in the country's political ecosystem. While Peru is financially pretty stable compared to other South American countries, it has long lost its trust in the traditional governance system due to political instability. In recent years, cryptocurrencies have been adopted (probably due to political instability), but most citizens have not yet discovered Web3.

HiWomenBiz is a project that supports the active discovery of Web3 and all its ingredients by setting up regular events centered around females to provide a safe space to ask questions and learn from each other. The founder, Briguit Reinaldo, is an active participant in the Web3 space and has launched the next initiative to propel specifically females in Peru forward: Latina Blockchain Hackathon.

I would like Unlock DAO to support this initiative with a small retroactive price pool for those Hackathon participants who find creative solutions to incorporate Unlock Protocol into their ideas via a retroactive Quadratic Funding of 100 UDT.

Before clarifying why, I would love for you to look at Briguit’s profiles and the work she has been doing here in Peru.

1 | Briguit Reinaldo

Briguit is the founder of HiWomenBiz and the lead in the Latina Blockchain Hackathon initiative. In Web3, she is also well known as criptomommy.

2 | Why Unlock Protocol

Unlock Protocol is an open-source protocol that thrives on being utilized by as many developers as possible. The more it is adopted, the higher the awareness around it. South America has been on the rise in the past few years regarding Web3, and we have a great opportunity here to take advantage of that. According to Bakkt, crypto holdings grew from 2023 to 24 by 40.23%; therefore, there is also more interest in everything related to it. Entering a market at the right moment will be good for Unlock. At the same time, I personally think it would be good for us as a DAO to take a stance and promote especially initiatives that highlight minorities (in this case, women) in the fintech and Web3 space. The three main projects that will receive part of the pool will become part of the DAO and can take their first steps with us in practicing DAO governance.

3 | How we can implement the funding

I suggest a 100 UDT prize pool for the three main projects that embed Unlock Protocol into their innovative ideas. The DAO would vote on the distribution between these three projects (previously selected by the hackathon's official jury) via Snapshot and execute via Tally as usual.

Briguit will guide the winners to communicate with me directly after the hackathon is over so we can set them up for the voting proposal.
