As this is to be a lasting community, please permit us to welcome one another, doing so in a traditional fashion that includes a subtle-yet-blatant nod to one of the most viral memes to be borne from the Utopian community at its very inception, the humble pineapple.
Why the Pineapple? For centuries, the fruit has been coveted for its taste and its scarcity. Once considered the world's most exotic fruit, its limited availability and climate demands made it a delicacy served only to the most honored guests!
Why Utopia? This humble fruit has been seen in chats, tweets, Pepe's face, a rare's face, a PFP, at turf wars, Hollywood, shirts, pizzas, skewers, and homes. It's that last one that brings me here. You see, the pineapple is a symbol of more than just a satisfied mouth; it's an international symbol of friendship and camaraderie. Who would have thought that the banter over something so simple could bond the community together, even during time of volatility, uncertainty, and general FUD? History will not forget this time, and neither can we! Doesn't it generate warm feelings to know that ANYONE, regardless of their affiliation to this project, regardless of their affiliation to this community, regardless of their affiliation to a single demographic datapoint, can be instantly embraced with a simple icebreaking question: "So, do you like pineapple on your pizza?" It's not about pineapples or pizza; it's about Utopians welcoming one another.
Welcome How? To that end, I propose we dedicated funds in an amount not to exceed $450.00 to procure one (1) pineapple door knocker for the front door of Utopia House. The included images come from designer Michael Healy's site. The dedicated amount offers sufficient latitude for senior members of the community or a collective of holders in collaboration with Utopia House residents to commission a customized pineapple door knocker, leveraging our various art community connections. We do not have to vote on what goes on the door, just that it will be a pineapple. Upon achieving consensus, I propose the forming of a subcommittee at Utopia Summit to execute the directive as decided.
Why Not Just Go Buy One? Why not run to Home Goods and get one? The community must recognize the action as representing our evolution. We must deliberately and intentionally support it. It must win our hearts. It must become this thing of ours. Picture the front door of Utopia House, each pic, each image, with its own little Easter egg (don't worry, we are still talking pineapples) for the Utopian community at large in plain view.
I understand I ask for a trophy, a luxury expense, one that we may mock and ignore, but experts will tell you not to do that. Why? We are here to build lasting community. Rather than a grand gesture of giving away something once, to one or few persons, to quickly be forgotten at the wave of a new shiny object, we can find immeasurable value in seeing material evidence that we are an evolving community, collectively deciding how we, with our voting collective, wish to represent our culture, which carries its own accountability and commitment. Isn't that what we want?
The proof is in the Pineapple.
So say we all.
