  • Simple Summary Implement a staged governance process to allow community members and team to effectively debate and refine proposals before snapshot voting

  • Abstract

Most decentralised projects have a multi-stage governance projects in order to facilitate debate, allow time to assess proper resourcing of proposals and give all users the opportunity and time to assess the future of the protocol. A simplified version of the processes adopted by the likes of Maker would allow us to remain dynamic whilst ensuring proposals are of high quality and preventing spam.

  • Motivation

It is likely there will be a number of proposals made to the DAO over the coming weeks. It is important that the community have the ability to debate these, and that only properly structured, resourced and supported proposals reach token voting stage.

Specification Overview

Please see draft governance process here: https://github.com/information-token/ve-dao-governance/blob/main/governance-template.md

Rationale

The draft governance proposal is detailed above, however, to summarise:

  • The team would generate a Discourse forum for governance discussion.
  • Users should post a thread in Discourse with a simple poll, using the provided template.
  • If simple consensus is reached, user, sponsor or team should post to Snapshot.
  • 500k tokens will remain the minimum to post a proposal to Snapshot.
  • Team will automatically vote against any proposal not following this process, and encourage other users to do the same.

Discussion with community in Discord about the initial proposal raised the issue of having an 'editor', similar to similar sized protocols. The draft proposal was amended to allow users with >500k to still make snapshot proposals, but that they would be automatically voted against by team if they did not follow the above process.
