Role Attribution Part 2 - The Shaper Role

Voting ended over 3 years agoSucceeded

#Introduction

As it grows, Web3 Island Makers needs structure to keep fairness and efficiency at heart of its decision making processes.

Mid September 2022, WIM3 officially launched a first draft of the DAO with on-chain role attribution: the Maker role. It is a free open role that any web3-curious person can claim by filling an application form and minting an Access Token.

👉 As of the end of October 2022, an extra role is needed to differentiate a Maker from another depending on their level of implication and contribution to the project.

Some Makers are active in the community by gladly participating in conversations or enjoying events ; some other Makers are actively contributing on a daily basis both on a strategic and operational level to make the organization advance towards its goals (See first OKRs proposal).

What we are trying to tackle by introducing an other role is:

How can we take decisions that benefits the DAO? How can we take decisions aligned with stated Goals and Vision? How can we distribute power in a meritocratic fashion so that members who put more effort and bring more value can enjoy having a greater vote power about the projects run by the DAO? How do we address the seniority of a member, given his seniority and track records of Goals Achieved?

Then emerges also the question of commitment. WIM3 needs to be able to project itself some months ahead to roll out impactful actions. To execute such a strategy it is needed some form of permanent team members that commits to keep the good work up on the mid-term as well.

A new role and some other improvements can bring an answer to both these questions.

In the future, some more roles can emerge and bring some further differentiation.

Proposal: implementation of the Shaper role and improvement of the Maker role.

The Shaper role definition

The definition described here is the model to be implemented until decided otherwise. The first implementation will require some adaptation that are described in the next chapter.

Description

Shapers are core contributors of the community. They are aware and active on short, middle and long-term goals of the DAO. Both on strategic and operational levels. They got passionate about the mission and vision and they now shape it together. They have an obvious and proven track record of good contributions to WIM3 as Maker. They actively make proposals and vote to improve the DAO operations. They can commit on some months (at least 6 months) of contribution.

Benefits

  • Has a voting power on all decisions of the DAO.
  • Has the power to maker proposals and to validate Makers’ proposals.
  • Has prior access to economical profit of the DAO.
  • Has special access to WIM3's goods, events and services.

How to get the role?

  • Has the Maker role.
  • Has been active Maker for at least 3 months regarding the date of their first vote, their first proposal, their first mission.
  • Has been active every month for the last past 3 months: has voted or made a proposal or has participated to a mission.
  • Is approved by ≥80% of other Shapers.
  • Has 1 volunteer mission (of which he/she didn’t claim the reward).
  • Has got a Shaper NFT. Price of mint is to be determined dynamically over time.
  • Has followed the Shaper onboarding process:
    • Has passed the test “How to contribute as a shaper?”.
    • Has passed the test “Basic Web3 Culture”.
    • Has attended 1 in-presence team-building event.

How to lose the role?

  • Be inactive/silent for the last 30 days: No vote - No proposal - No participation in meetings.
  • You lost your Shaper NFT in Ganesha.

The Shaper role implementation

For this first attribution, some specific twists are proposed to make it possible or easier:

Description: unchanged.

Benefits: unchanged.

How to get the role?:

  • Has been active Maker for at least 1 month - instead of 3.
  • Has been active Maker for the last month - instead of every month for the last past 3 months.
  • Is approved by 80% of other Makers - instead of 80% of other Shapers.
  • Has got a Shaper NFT with a value of 300€ - in order to constitute the first treasury of the DAO.
  • Doesn’t need to pass the test “How to contribute as a shaper?”, but needs to participate to Governance workshops that help defining general functioning of the DAO.
  • Doesn’t need to pass the test “Basic Web3 Knowledge”, but needs to follow a more or less deep Web3 training.
