Background: Splinterlands runs on the Hive Blockchain, which has a key system that is different than the systems most Bitcoin/Ethereum users are used to. As of this time, hardware and multi-signature wallets for Hive are not generally available or compatible with Splinterlands.
Problem: In order to utilize the Splinterlands assets, somebody needs to have access to the private keys in control of those assets. Centralized control over assets is a risk.
Solution: Establish a custodian who is charged with safeguarding the sub-DAO assets and execute the actions and business of the sub-DAO. Attempt to mitigate the risks through proportionate penalties and incentives.
Recommendations for Custodian:
Execution: If passed, a subsequent proposal should be made to vote on a particular eligible custodian, keeping in mind and addressing the above recommendations. Once selected, the custodian will work with YGG to receive the sub-DAO assets and implement the secure escrow and backup strategies. From then until a new custodian is selected, the custodian will be responsible for executing on-chain YGGSPL sub-DAO proposals and decisions to the best of their ability.
